Set up your DNS to Lumu - Apple macOS

Configure DNS in Apple macOS

Setting up DNS forwarding on a macOS client device is the configuration suggested for testing purposes. We recommend you  configure your DNS server or your router to take the most advantage of Lumu Continuous Compromise Assessment on your entire network.

This guide will walk you through the DNS configuration process for a macOS operating system.

Requirements

  1. A device running a macOS operating system.
Remember that for using Lumu DNS servers through Lumu Gateways collectors, you first need to register your public IP address or group of IPs as a gateway for your company at the Lumu Portal before configuring your DNS. If you are using Lumu Virtual Appliance (VA) as a DNS resolver, remember first to deploy and configure your VA.

Edit macOS DNS Settings

The DNS settings can vary depending on the macOS version. The following is a general overview of configuring DNS on a macOS.

On the macOS system preferences, click on the option to manage network.

Select the first connection of the list and click on the Advanced option:
macOS network preferences macOS network preferences
On the DNS tab, set Lumu DNS server addresses (or your Lumu Virtual Appliance IP, if applicable) in the Preferred DNS server and Alternate DNS server fields, respectively.
If there are any greyed-out IP numbers, they can be ignored.

The Lumu DNS resolvers IPv4 addresses are:
50.17.0.10
3.87.85.24

Validate Your Settings

The final step is to verify that your DNS connections are correctly routed through Lumu. See Validate your DNS Settings for more information.
